For Hazel
So fleet of foot and quick to smile,
You came to shine your golden light.
And bring us joy for just a while,
As friend and clown and acolyte
Carried by your silken paws,
Well you knew the forest ways.
You trod the heath land and the moors,
In winter frost, or summer haze
In our hearts your light yet burns,
Your soul lives on within us all.
Your eyes still flash 'mongst forest ferns,
Your feet still patter down the hall
Gorgeous Hazel, golden flame,
Keep safe until we meet again
